The FireWall included in the Avira Internet Security is now able to filter Ipv6 addresses on the adapter level and also create rules for applications trying to connect over Ipv6. This completes the FireWall solution and assures the customers that even if they use the newest IP protocol they are still protected. Also, the Mail and Web protection components are able to work now in a pure Ipv6 environment.
Removal of potentially incompatible software:
Everybody knows that running two security solutions in parallel can have negative consequences on the stability of the PC and the overall experience with newly installed software. So in order to make the transition to the Avira products version 2012 as easy and painless as possible, automatic detection and removal of potentially incompatible software has been added in all installation programs. No worries, it is possible to select what 3rd party solutions to keep.

Rogue software (with similar name)In July 2010, a rogue security program called "Antivir Solution Pro" was reported as a threat; it was probably from a family known as AV Security Suite. This software had nothing to do with nor had any affiliation with Avira, but used a similar name to Avira's software.
Ask.com toolbar controversy:
During summer 2011, Avira updated the Free Edition. After the update, users were required to install the Ask.com toolbar if they wanted to receive the Web Protection feature in the Free Edition. The Ask.com toolbar is often considered to be a malware or spyware. The option to install Ask.com toolbar and the Web Protection feature were both removed from the versions released after August 2012.
Daily 'nag' advertising pop-up:
Avira Free Edition has a pop-up asking customers to buy the paid versions on a daily basis. This has irritated many users, who have uninstalled Avira and switched to a different antivirus.
Adware Popups Scandal:
In April 2012, users of paid versions of Avira started getting pop-ups on their desktop for gambling and phishing websites. The advertising pop-ups could't be disabled at that time since they were sponsored by Avira. This was the first time that a paid antivirus has been classified as adware. However, this was later fixed.
Defective update:
In May 2012, following a defective definition file update, AntiVirProActiv started blocking several legitimate Windows processes, and also preventing PCs from booting. The problem was fixed through an update on 13 June 2012.
